We always dream of living in a castle just like the one in the Disney movies or living it like in the movies. But would it not be fun to know of actual locations that were in fact inspirations for Disney movies instead of the other way round?
- U-Drop Inn
This Inn in the US along Route 66 is featured in the movie ‘Cars’ as Ramone’s ‘House of Body Art’.
- Chateau de Chillon
Do you remember the castle in Little Mermaid that belonged to Prince Eric? The Chateau in Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva was the inspiration for it.
- Eilean Donan
Most of us do know that the movie Brave was based in Scottish Highlands but we might not be aware that the Eilean Donan castle in Scotland was an inspiration for the one in the movie.
- Hotel de Glace
If you thought how wonderful it would be to live in a palace like Elsa’s in the movie Frozen, then it is possible because there is a hotel in Quebec, Canada which was the inspiration for the movie. The ice hotel is known as Hotel de Glace.
The inspiration for the Little Town home of Belle from Beauty and the Beast is a small village region known as Alsace in France.

Another inspiration for the movie Beauty and the Beast was the Chateau de Chambord castle in France.
- The French Laundry
Remember the restaurant in the movie “Ratatouille”? The inspiration was a Californian restaurant known as ‘The French Laundry’ which is rated as one of the finest restaurants in the world.
The Serengeti migrations in Tanzania, which are massive, were an inspiration for the movie Lion King.
- Yi Peng Festival
There is a festival in Thailand known as the Yi Peng festival where balloons are released in the air which served as inspiration for the ritual in the movie Tangle.
